Dairy carrier licence guidance

Who this licence suits?

This licence is for businesses that transport dairy food in bulk containers in Victoria.

You must hold a current dairy carrier licence before you start operating.

Before you apply

Before applying, make sure you understand your legal responsibilities and have the right systems in place. You should:

  • ensure your vehicles, equipment and containers are suitable and can be effectively cleaned and sanitised
  • have a documented food safety program in place
  • have systems for product tracing, including identifying the immediate supplier and immediate recipient of dairy products
  • have time and temperature controls that prevent or reduce the growth of microbiological hazards
  • ensure staff have appropriate food safety and hygiene skills
  • check whether you need additional approval to transport milk for raw milk cheese production.
If you are unsure which licence applies, contact Safe Food Victoria before you apply.
