You must tell Safe Food Victoria in writing if your dairy business has stopped operating or will stop operating.
Safe Food Victoria may cancel a dairy industry licence if the licensee has ceased to carry on the business specified in the licence.
How to cancel your licence
If you want to voluntarily cancel your licence, you must complete the licence cancellation form and advise Safe Food Victoria in writing that your business has ceased operating or will cease operating. Once the below form is completed, please email it to info@dairysafe.vic.gov.au

If Safe Food Victoria proposes to cancel your licence
Safe Food Victoria may begin a cancellation process if there are grounds to cancel a licence. Before cancelling a licence, Safe Food Victoria will write to the licensee and explain:
- the intention to cancel the licence
- the reason for the proposed cancellation
- that the licensee has an opportunity to reply before a final decision is made
If Safe Food Victoria decides to cancel the licence, the cancellation will take effect 28 days after written notification is given. During this period, the licensee may apply to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal for review of the decision.
When you need to cancel your licence
Your business changes ownership
Cancel your licence if:
- your business is sold
- ownership changes
Licences cannot be transferred to a new owner. The new owner must apply for a new licence.
You add a business partner
Cancel your licence if you add a new business partner.
You must apply for a new licence with the new business structure.Your business moves location
Cancel your licence if:
- your business moves to a new premises
You must apply for a new licence for the new location.
Licences cannot be transferred between locations.Your facility stops operating
Cancel your licence if your business closes.
You may be eligible for a partial refund of unused fees.
Refunds are not available if you cancel in:- June
- December
Meat transport vehicles
When you must cancel your licence
Cancel your licence if:
- you sell your licensed vehicle
- your vehicle is written off
- you replace your vehicle
You must:
- remove the licence sticker
- ensure the new owner applies for a new licence
No refunds are available.
When you do not need to cancel
Do not cancel your licence if:
- only your contact details change
- your vehicle registration changes (same vehicle)
In these cases, update your licence instead.
How to cancel your licence
To cancel your licence, email Safe Food Victoria.
Your email must include:
- your name, business name and licence details
- the reason for cancelling your licence
- your business bank account details (see below)
Refunds
You may be eligible for a pro rata refund of unused licence fees.
Refunds are not available if you request cancellation in the last month of your licence period (June or December, depending on your licence type).
Providing bank details
Refunds can only be paid into a business bank account.
We cannot refund fees to a credit card.Include the following details in your email:

- BSB
- account number
