Freedom of Information (FOI)

The Freedom of Information Act 1982 gives you the right to request access to documents held by Safe Food Victoria.

Before you apply

Many documents are already publicly available. Before making a request, check whether the information you need is available online, including:

  • the Safe Food Victoria annual report
  • other content on this website

Fees and charges

An application fee is required for your request to be valid.

If paying the fee would cause financial hardship, you can request a waiver by providing supporting evidence (for example, a copy of a current health care card).

Additional charges may apply for:

  • searching for documents
  • retrieving documents
  • photocopying

Standard fees are set by the Department of Treasury and Finance.

How to pay your application fee

The FOI application fee must be paid by electronic funds transfer (EFT) to:

When making your payment:

  • include your name as the payment reference
  • attach proof of payment to your FOI request (for example, a bank receipt, transaction confirmation or screenshot)

Making an FOI request

Your request must:

  • be in writing
  • clearly describe the documents you are seeking so Safe Food Victoria can identify them
  • include proof of payment of the application fee
